Taxi’s
Please book your taxis with plenty of notice. The venue is in a remote & rural part of Wales so booking a taxi in advance is highly advised – please see the link for “Taxis” below for more information. There is plenty of on-site parking at the venue, but all guests not staying at Wilde Lodge must vacate by 1am.
Dress code
Semi-formal garden party is the vibe, but please wear whatever you feel comfortable in. The ceremony & reception is inside but we are hoping to make use of the beautiful grounds & have garden games out on the lawn, so please bear in mind for footwear. As it is Wales the weather can be unpredictable, so please consider packing something warm for the evening. We will have fire pits lit for the evening as well! For more details on footwear etc. please see Wilde lodge’s “Guest Kit List”
Children
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate children outside of our immediate family - thank you for your understanding & we hope with the advance notice you will still be able to join us.
Gifts
Having the pleasure of your company for our wedding is gift enough, so we do not expect any presents! However, if you would like to gift us something, a contribution towards our honeymoon would be very much appreciated.
The Local Area
Wilde Lodge is situated right on the edge of the Shropshire Hills, an AONB, with many beautiful walks to enjoy in the area.
Knighton is a small market town, 5 min drive from the venue. It is the closest town to offer a small selection of hotels & B&Bs pubs, restaurants/take-aways & a small Co-op. There is also a train station & bus route.
Ludlow is the next biggest town, roughly 28 min drive from the venue. A historic market town, Ludlow has a wide range of restaurants, cafés & shops, as well as more accommodation options. The town sits along the main train line running N & S.
Further Afield
If you are planning on extending your trip & exploring more of Wales, please see some recommendations below of our favourite areas:
Northern Pembrokeshire:
Surf beaches, dolphin spotting, coastal path & amazing coasteering & kayaking with turquoise waters! Cute-cottage-AirB&Bs-galore. St. David’s historic town & its surrounding beaches; Whitesands, Caerfai Bay. Coastal walk St. David’s-Solva, fresh seafood “Mrs Will the Fish”. Abereiddy Bay & cliff jumping at the Blue Lagoon. The Sloop Inn at Porthgain.
Cardigan Bay Coastline:
If Pembrokeshire is like Cornwall with less of the crowds, then the Cardigan coast is Pembrokeshire without any of the crowds! Just be warned, some of the roads down to the beaches & coves can get very narrow. Mwnt & Cwmtydu beach. Llangrannog small fishing village: “Sawna Llosgi” sauna, The Beach Hut for fish & chips. Aberteifi/Cardigan: historic town, Pizzatipi for dinner along the riverbank & Crwst café.
Snowdonia National Park:
If you want to fit in a bit of hiking, Snowdonia is the place to go! It can get quite busy in the summer months, but there are plenty of parking & bus shuttles around the main mountain ranges of Yr Wyddfa & The Glyders. Llyn Idwal, Lyn Gwynant & Watkins Path Falls for an icy dip (even in the summer). The mountain towns of Llanberis & Betws-y-Coed have plenty of cafes, restaurants & accommodation. Small mountain village of Beddgelert. Further S; The Mawddach estuary trail, “George III” at Penmaenpool for a roast. Cadair Idris mountain & the ancient town of Machynlleth. And if you want to escape the crowds altogether head into the Rhinogs!
Anglesey:
If you’re making a stop before catching the ferry, the islands of Anglesey & Holyhead have some stunning stretches of coastline. Anglesey: Llanddwyn Beach has some incredible views of Snowdonia, make sure to walk to the island but keep an eye on the tide times! Holyhead island; Porth Dafarch, puffins at Southstack lighthouse & the Sea Shanty at Trearddur Bay.
… And if castles are your jam, then you are never too far away from a 12th-14thc one here in Wales. Cardiff, Caernarfon & Harlech
